At the AeroWest Summit 2026, I spoke about something I believe Africa must begin to do differently: tell a new story about ourselves.
Too often, when we speak about Africa, we speak about our problems. Poverty. Conflict. Infrastructure deficits. Political instability. But Africa is so much more than the challenges we face.
We have something the world increasingly values: authentic experiences.
Our cultures, our food, our music, our history, our festivals, our landscapes, our people and the incredible diversity of our communities are not problems to be solved. They are experiences to be shared and they can become the very magnets that draw millions of visitors to our continent.
At Eko Hotels & Suites, we have seen what happens when we look inwards and deliberately create experiences from what we already have. We took our culture, creativity, hospitality and local talent and built experiences that people want to return to.
Africa can do the same at scale.
We need to stop asking only what the world can give Africa and start asking what Africa can offer the world.
We simply need to believe in what we have and build it well enough for the world to come and experience it.
